AED mandate hits Jan 1, 2026 (O. Reg. 157/25 under OHSA). This is a major industry change—be ready.

Who’s coveredProjects that regularly have 20+ workers and are expected to last 3+ months must comply.
If you’re in scope, the constructor must ensure:
AED + required emergency kit– Health Canada–licensed AED– Keep together with: 1 CPR mask, 1 pair of scissors, 2 pairs of medical-grade disposable gloves, 1 razor, 1 garbage bag, 4 absorbent towels.
Storage conditions– AED and supplies stored in one place– Protected from dust, moisture, extreme temperatures, sunlight, and damaging substances– Unobstructed & easy to access.
Maintenance & inspection– Maintain/test per manufacturer– Inspect at least quarterly and keep records on site.
Signage– Clearly visible location signs– Must show the heart + lightning symbol and the words “Automated External Defibrillator,” “AED,” or the French equivalent.
Trained personnel– At least one worker trained in CPR + AED on site whenever work is underway.
The regulation takes effect January 1, 2026. Non-compliance can trigger enforcement.
